A New Month and Still Hot

We are a week into August and it is looking very similar to June and July, hot and dry.  July 8 was our last significant rain and before that it was June 5.  Considering how dry the course has been, I'm pleased with how it has held up.  We are in great shape due to the tremendous effort from the crew. They have put in some long days to ensure the golf course is at its best.

Most of our time has been spent hand watering hot spots and cooling down the plants.  During these hot and dry periods, the canopy temperature of the turf is much hotter than the air temperature.  By hand watering, we can cool the plants down and help them get through the day.

We have also been busy digging up and repairing sprinkler heads that have stopped spinning or working.  To date, we have repaired over 50 heads. Considering we have over 1,500 irrigation heads to maintain and keep track of, the 50 we have had to fix has been in the normal range for a season.
