All Systems Go

It looks like the weather will cooperate Monday and Tuesday for aerification of the greens.  The forecast is calling for a couple of sunny days which will help dry the sand and make it easier to fill the aerification holes.  As in years past, I would anticipate a speedy recovery due to the warm night time temperatures.

Aerification is a necessary process each year to maintain quality conditions.  Although it creates some disruption, the benefits far outweigh any negatives.

Aerification benefits include:
  • compaction relief
  • increased water infiltration
  • deeper roots and healthier plants
  • firmer and faster greens

We made a couple minor tweaks to our aerification process this year.  We tested them Thursday on the south chipping green and everything worked great.  The changes are going to really improve our ability to fill the aerification holes, which in turn will result in a relatively smooth putting surface.  The greens will recover quite quickly and each day they will continue to get better and better.  Thank you for your patience.
