A Cold Start

The holiday weekend started off frigid this morning with temperatures hovering at 38F with a windchill of 33F.  Despite the unfavorable conditions, we accomplished a great deal.  Along with our normal weekend preparations, we were able to verticut greens.  Verticutting is the process of removing the lateral turfgrass growth.  It is very comparable to a barber thinning out hair.  Verticutting this time of year also helps clean-up any lingering poa seedheads.  The greens will be rolling nice this weekend.  I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day! Making Progress

Everything is looking good out on the course.  It was another productive week, as we completed many items on our to-do list.  The greens are rolling great and the rough is under control.  We were able to cut the rough twice this week making it much more playable.  Below are a few photos from the week. #5 green #3 fairway #14 green

Spring is Here

It seems like it has been a long wait, but spring is finally here.  We had a nice stretch of consistant warm weather this week.  As a result, the turf is actively growing.  It has been a challenge keeping the rough short enough to be playable.  We were able to finally catch up with it this week by mowing it twice. tulips on #9 tee Looking ahead to next week, we will be conducting our normal maintenance, as well as a few extra tasks including: verticutting fairways deep-tining fairways landscaping around pool landscaping around tennis courts ornamental bed preparation See you on the course-

Course Update

The greens are looking great nine days after aerification.  The holes have healed in and the greens are rolling smoothly once again.     #2 green nine days after aerification We were able to slice the fairways this week with the Aerway. Slicing fairways is an effective but non-disruptive means of aerification.  The Aerway is a slicing machine that delivers a 4" wide slice, 3" deep.  As the blades penetrate the soil, they cut through and break up the soil profile.  The slicing helps reduce compaction and improve turf rooting.
