Course Conditions

Greens have healed from aerification and we have resumed our normal maintenance practices.  We continue to monitor moisture multiple times a day to achieve the optimal firmness and playability.  A TDR moisture meter is used to measure soil moisture content. We use the volumetric water content to assess uniformity across the green so we can hand water only the areas of the green that require supplemental water. Myles measuring the moisture level on #8 green This spot on #8 is reading 10.5% soil moisture (the lower the reading, the drier it is) I took this video today from the landing area of #1 fairway demonstrating how it is firming up after aerification.

September Course Happenings

Our busy month continues to stay on schedule as we are closing in on the completion of fairway aerification. We are 75% complete; only fairways 12, 13, 14, 16, and 18 remain. aerifying #17 fairway 10" deep Greens have healed in completely from aerification two weeks ago. During the recovery period, the greens have been slower and softer than normal. They have been softer due the number and depth of the aerification holes created. The softness is a normal result of aerification, as we are relieving the season-long compaction from mowing, rolling, and traffic. As part of the recovery regimen, we also have applied slightly more nutrients and water to aid in the recovery of the holes. Now that the holes have healed, we will be able to more aggressively maintain the turf and achieve our normal speeds and firmness. We will be shifting our attention to filling the remaining bunkers that need sand. On Monday, we were able to repair and fill the south green side bunker on #11. We ...

Right on Track

The greens are recovering quickly from aerification.  The holes have filled in nicely over the past seven days.  With each passing day, they are also putting more smoothly. #13 green #13 green close-up Tee aerification was completed today. Cooperative weather helped the clean-up process run efficiently. aerifying #4 tee Fairway aerification is also going as planned seeing that we are a 1/4 of the way through.  Fairway aerification is a slow process.  We operate the Soil Reliever at 1 mph to achieve a tight hole spacing. Aerification at Its Best

We were able to finish aerifying greens today.  It was a successful two days, and the greens turned out very nice.  We created over 2 million holes and filled them with over 40 tons of sand. Below is a video of the Soil Reliever aerifying #16 green at a 10" depth.
