Big Mo - Day Three

Everything on the course looks good this morning.  We accumulated a little rain last night, but the course absorbed it just fine.  The greens are rolling good again today, it should be a fun final day. Brendan double cutting #17 green

Big Mo - Day Two

It was a quick turnaround this morning, as we worked late last night.  We were able to mow tees, rough and syringe a few hot spots on greens. This morning, everything is looking good.   We raked bunkers, cut cups and double cut/double rolled the greens. #7 David rolling #17 green

Big Mo - Day One

Day One is shaping up to be beautiful.  It was a busy morning, as we put the finishing touches on the golf course.

Tournament Time...

It has been an extremely productive week preparing for Men's Invitational.  The staff did another amazing job this week.  Below are a few photos of the course. #3   #5 #7 #8

Looking Good

The turf held on extremely well last week enduring temperatures in the mid 90's, rain, and extreme humidity.  We made multiple preventative fungicide applications, needle-tined greens, and spent many hours syringing the turf to cool off the plants. It was a long and tiring week, but it was extremely rewarding to know we helped the plants navigate through a rough week of weather.  A big thanks to my staff for their tremendous dedication and effort. #12 fairway

A Look Back in Time

Today marks the 51st anniversary that the Motor City Open was held at KCC.  The Motor City Open was a PGA event played at various clubs in the metro Detroit area for almost two decades. Knollwood hosted the event July 12-15, 1962.  Bruce Crampton was named champion. Below are two pictures of a tournament pass I acquired online.  It is great to know little pieces of history still exist today to tell a story of yesteryear.

Course Update

Here's a quick update on course conditions.  Everything is looking great and running smoothly.  As we enter the heat of the season, the turf plants remain extremely healthy.  My staff and I continue to focus on proactive measures that will put the plants in the best position to battle the stresses of Mother Nature. The extended forecast is calling for temperatures in the 90's next week.  I will not push the plants with excessive mowing and rolling, therefore green speeds may be slower.  We'll most likely be syringing the turf during the day to help cool down the surface temperatures.  As always, we will try our best to work around play.

Happy 4th!

I'd like to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July . I hope your weekend has been an enjoyable one.    I'd like to thank everyone for the many compliments on the golf course.  It is truly great to work with a membership that's as special as ours.
